Andy Pettitte pitched in the majors for 18 seasons  from 1995-2013 for the New York Yankees (1995-2003, 2007-2010, 2012-2013) and Houston Astros (2004-2006). Pettitte was three times named an All-Star and won five World Series with the Yankees, including four during the Yankees’ dynasty of the late 1990s – early 2000s when he was part of the group known as the “Core Four” which also included Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada. In the 2001 postseason, he was named MVP of the American League Championship Series (ALCS). The Yankees retired Pettitte’s jersey #46 in 2015 and honored him in Monument Park.

Pettitte made his debut in the majors for New York on April 29, 1995 and finished third that season in American League Rookie of the Year voting. The next season, his 21 wins led the American League. In total for his career, Pettitte compiled a record of 256-153 with an ERA of 3.85. He ranks first all-time among Yankees pitchers in strikeouts with 2,020 and third in wins with 219. He is also tied for first-all time in franchise history with 438 starts. He is the only pitcher since 1930 to have won at least 12 games in each of his first nine seasons in the league and ranks as the all-time MLB postseason leader in wins with 19.

After playing in New York for nine seasons, Pettitte moved south to Houston in 2004. The next season, he recorded a career-best ERA of 2.39, which trailed only teammate Roger Clemens for tops in the National League, and helped the team to its first-ever appearance in the World Series. He re-signed with New York in 2007 and won a fifth World Series title in 2009.
