Mookie Wilson played outfield in the majors for 12 seasons for the New York Mets (1980-1989) and Toronto Blue Jays (1989-1991). Wilson will forever be remembered for his role in one of the most infamous plays in MLB history. With the Mets trailing the Boston Red Sox 5-4 in the bottom of the 10th inning in the sixth game of the 1986 World Series, Wilson hit a ground ball through the legs of Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner, which allowed Ray Knight to score the game-winning run and ultimately led to the Mets winning Game 7 and the Fall Classic. In total for his career, Wilson hit .274 with 1,397 hits. He was inducted in the Mets Hall of Fame in 1996.

Born on February 9, 1956 in Bamberg, South Carolina, Wilson attended Spartanburg Methodist College before transferring to the University of South Carolina. He was picked by the Mets in the 1977 MLB draft (2nd round) and made his debut in the majors on September 2, 1980. After retiring from playing, Wilson coached in the Mets system, first serving as the big-league first base coach from 1996-2002 (and later 2011) before managing two of their minor league teams, the Kingsport Mets in 2003-2004 and Brooklyn Cyclones in 2005.
