Jeff Bagwell played first base in the majors from 1991-2005, all with the Houston Astros. He became a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2017. A four-time All-Star, Bagwell regularly hit for power during his career as evidenced by his 449 home runs. He also hit over .300 six times. As one of the cornerstone players for the Astros (along with Hall of Famer Craig Biggio) during his time in the league, Bagwell helped lead the franchise in 11 of 12 seasons to either a first or second place finish in the National League’s Central Division from 1994-2005, including a berth in the 2005 World Series. His jersey #5 was retired by Houston in 2007. He is also a member of the Astros Hall of Fame and Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

Bagwell was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 4th round of the 1989 draft and traded to the Astros in 1990. He made his MLB debut on April 8, 1991 and went on to hit .294 with 15 home runs and 82 RBI, winning N.L. Rookie of the Year honors for his efforts. Bagwell produced an incredible season in 1994, hitting .368 with 39 homers and 116 RBI. That year he was named the N.L. MVP – the first Astros player to ever win the honor – along with winning both the Silver Slugger and Gold Glove awards and being named an All-Star. From 1996-2003, Bagwell displayed impressive consistency in the batter’s box as during that time he failed just one season to hit fewer than 34 home runs and knock in less than 100 RBI. Bagwell would receive MVP votes in 10 separate seasons and won another two Silver Slugger Awards in 1997 and 1999. He was born on May 27, 1968 in Boston, Massachusetts and played collegiately at the University of Hartford.
