Former University of Florida Football Coach Steve Spurrier to be Keynote Speaker For 2017 Sports Awards Event

FORT MYERS, FL – Former University of Florida football coach, Heisman Trophy Winner and Hall of Famer Steve Spurrier has been named as keynote speaker for the Southwest Florida Sports Awards to be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. The event is being hosted by the Naples Daily News and will take place at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall, 13350 FSW Pkwy, Fort Myers, FL 33919. Source: Naples Daily News
According to the Naples Daily News article, the event is to be a celebration to honor nearly 150 of the best student-athletes from Florida’s Lee and Collier counties:

“Spurrier’s talk is part of a celebration where Naples Daily News and The News-Press will honor nearly 150 of Lee and Collier counties’ best student-athletes and present various awards throughout the evening.”

Steve Spurrier is a former football player and head coach of the University of Florida as well as the University of South Carolina. He was a two-time All-American and as a player is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Spurrier is best known for winning the Heisman Trophy in 1966 and for coaching the University of Florida football team to six SEC championships. While he was a University of Florida student, Spurrier was inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame, the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame, and Florida Blue Key leadership honorary.
