The Boston Celtics
The Celtics have the most championships of any Boston team and the most of any NBA franchise with 18 championships. Between 1957 and 1969, the Celtics won 11 titles, including eight straight, with rosters that included legendary players such as Hall of Famers Bill Russell, Bob Cousy and John Havlicek.
The franchise won another two championships in the 1970’s before winning three between 1981 and 1986 with teams led by Larry Bird, Robert Parish and Kevin McHale. Since the turn of the century, Boston captured two more titles in 2008 and 2024, the latter led by Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett and the most recent led by Jayson Brown and Jayson Tatum.
The Boston Red Sox
Next on the list is the Boston Red Sox with nine World Series titles. Five of those championships came between 1903 and 1918. The franchise endured a 93-year drought before winning another World Series in 2004. In what is arguably the greatest sports moment in Boston sports history, the Red Sox overcame a 3-0 deficit to the New York Yankees in the AL Championship Series before winning four consecutive games to reach the World Series, where they swept the St. Louis Cardinals.
The 2004 team featured a roster of unforgettable players, including Jason Varitek, David Ortiz, Johnny Damon, Curt Schilling, Tim Wakefield, Kevin Millar and Trot Nixon. After breaking “The Curse of the Bambino” with the 2004 championship, the Red Sox won four more World Series in 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2021.
The New England Patriots and The Boston Bruins
The New England Patriots and Boston Bruins are tied with six titles each. Before the arrival of Tom Brady, the Patriots had never won a Super Bowl. After Brady’s arrival, the Patriots won six titles between 2001 and 2018. Led by coach Bill Belichick and the legendary play of Brady, the championship teams of that era featured a large number of players who will forever be remembered in New England, including Tedy Bruschi, Adam Vinatieri, Rodney Harrison, Ty Law, Vince Wilfork, Troy Brown, Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman.
The Bruins, the third-oldest franchise in the NHL, won their first Stanley Cup in the 1928- 1929 season and their most recent in 2010 – 2011 with popular players Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand.
