ST. LOUIS, MO. — Former MLB Manager, Tony LaRussa, recently gave the keynote speech to nearly 3,000 student graduates at Washington University in St. Louis on May 16 in Brookings Quadrangle on the Danforth Campus. La Russa told the graduates that young people must be willing to take chances as they begin their working lives. This was La Russa’s third time speaking at Washington University. He delivered an Assembly Series talk in 2005 and the keynote address at the William Greenleaf Eliot Society’s 45th annual dinner in 2012.

LAFAYETTE, La. — Former UL Ragin’ Cajun and current Chicago Bears All-Pro cornerback, Charles Tillman, returned to his alma mater on Saturday, May 17, 2014 to deliver the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s commencement address. Tillman spoke at the 11 a.m. general assembly for all graduates, their families and friends. Each academic college hands out degrees at separate ceremonies. Tillman, who was the winner of the 2013 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, spoke about the importance of giving back and helping others.

DEERFIELD, IL. — Former Chicago Bulls star, Scottie Pippen, will be hosting the Scottie Pippen Skills Camp on June 10-13 for boys ages 8-15 and girls ages 10-14. Pippen will be on the court all four days, working directly with the players and teaching his techniques. Pippen and his highly qualified staff have developed a four-day camp curriculum focused on fundamental basketball skills: ball handling, free throws, footwork & rebounding.

OPELIKA, AL — Bruce Pearl, Auburn basketball’s new head coach, was the keynote speaker on Tuesday, May 13, at the Opelika Rotary Club’s weekly lunch held at Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, AL. Pearl spoke to a large crowd about what it’s going to take to turn the Auburn basketball program around. His plan, he said, begins with fan support.

DANBURY, CT. — Legendary NFL quarterback, Joe Namath, will be hosting his 43rd annual football camp this summer at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Conn. The camp, which is open to boys of ages 8 to 18, is scheduled for July 13 – July 17, 2014. Tuition for 2014 is $795 for overnight campers and $495 for day campers.

CHICAGO, IL — Legendary Chicago Bears coach, Mike Ditka, has been named the new spokesman for Al’s Beef and Nancy’s Pizza in Chicago. Ditka was introduced Tuesday, May 13, at the site of a new Al’s Beef location at 234 S. Wabash Street in Chicago, Illinois. Chicago Franchise Systems, a Mokena-based company that owns the restaurants, told the media that they are employing Ditka as part of its expansion plans. (more…)
SAN JOSE, CA. — Former 49ers Wide Receiver, Jerry Rice, was the keynote speaker on May 3 at the annual homecoming of Palmer College of Chiropractic, West Campus in San Jose, Calif. MELBOURNE, FL. — College Football Hall of Famer and University of Wisconsin Director of Athletics, Barry Alvarez, will be the featured speaker at Florida Tech’s third annual Inside the Huddle banquet on May 15, 2014. The banquet will begin in the Panther Dining Hall with a cocktail reception at 6:00 p.m. and the dinner and program will follow at 6:30 p.m.
