Lenny Wilkens enjoyed a lengthy NBA career, first as a player and later as a coach. He was a 13-time NBA All-Star – nine times as a player and four times as a coach - and was named one of the top 10 coaches in league history as part of the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. Wilkens is a three-time inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player (1989), coach (1998) as well as for contributions as an assistant coach as part of the U.S. men’s basketball "Dream Team" that won a gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

He played from 1960-1975 with the St. Louis Hawks (1960-1968), Seattle SuperSonics (1968-1972), Cleveland Cavaliers (1972-1974) and Portland Trail Blazers (1974-1975). Towards the latter half of his career, Wilkens served as a player-coach before embarking on a legendary head coaching career with the SuperSonics (1969-1972, 1977-1985), Trail Blazers (1974-1975), Cavaliers (1986-1993), Atlanta Hawks (1993-2000), Toronto Raptors (2000-2003) and New York Knicks (2004-2005). At the time of his retirement, Wilkens was the winningest coach in NBA history (1,332).

In 1977-1978, as Seattle’s head coach, he led the team to a 42-18 record and an NBA Finals appearance where they lost to the Washington Bullets in seven games. The next season, Wilkens’ SuperSonics once more advanced to the NBA Finals, this time winning a rematch against the Bullets in five games. For the 1993-1994 season, his first as head coach in Atlanta, Wilkens guided the Hawks to a 57-25 record, winning NBA Coach of the Year honors. Wilkens was born on October 28, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York and played collegiately at Providence, where he was a two-time All-American. He became a member of the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
