Joe Pepitone played outfield and first base in the majors from 1962-1973, most notably for the New York Yankees for the first 8 seasons of his career but also the Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves. He also spent a short stint in 1973 playing in Japan for the Yakult Atoms. He was a three-time All-Star (1963-1965) and three-time Gold Glove winner (1965, 1966 and 1969). Pepitone made his MLB debut on April 10, 1962 and won a World Series with the Yankees later that season on a team that featured Hall of Famers Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford. In total for his career, Pepitone batted .258 with 219 homers and 721 RBI.

After his playing days in the majors, Pepitone played in the American Professional Slow Pitch League for the New Jersey Statesman. He also worked as a coach with the Yankees and in the team’s front office. In pop culture, Pepitone was referenced in a number of “Seinfeld” episodes along with “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, “Golden Girls”, “The West Wing” and “The Sopranos”. In 1975, Pepitone authored a book titled “Joe, You Coulda Made Us Proud”. He was born on October 9, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York.
