Wade Boggs is a retired third baseman who played 18 years in the majors with the Boston Red Sox (1982-1992), New York Yankees (1993-1997) and Tampa Bay Rays (1998-1999). A career .328 hitter, Boggs failed to hit .300 or better during only three seasons. He retired with 3,010 hits, 118 home runs and 1,014 RBI. Boggs was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame during his first year of eligibility in 2005.

Boggs claimed the American League batting title five times (1983, 1986-1989) and was an All-Star for 12 consecutive years from 1985-1996 and trails only fellow Hall of Famers George Brett and Brooks Robinson for the number of consecutive All-Star Games by a third baseman. He also collected two Gold Gloves and eight Silver Slugger Awards. Boggs won a World Series title with the Yankees in 1996 and, during game four, he drew a bases loaded walk in extra innings which proved to be the game-winning run.

Boston and Tampa Bay both retired his number and he was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2004. Boggs was ranked #95 by The Sporting News in 1997 as part of its 100 Greatest Baseball Players list. Boggs attended Plant High School in Tampa, Florida and was drafted in the 7th round of the 1976 draft by the Red Sox. He made his major league debut on April 10, 1982.
