Tim Raines Jeff Bagwell and Ivan Rodriguez have been elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame for 2017. The results were released yesterday by the Baseball Writers of America Association (BBWAA) in an announcement at 6:00 p.m. EST.
Tim Raines was elected in his tenth and final year on the ballot. He has 808 career stolen bases and ranked fifth all time for stolen bases.
Jeff Bagwell was elected in his seventh year on the ballot. He was the 1994 National League MVP with 449 career home runs.
Ivan “Pudge” Rodriquez was elected in his first year on the ballot. He is a 14 time All star catcher who holds a record of 2,749 hits, the most by any catcher in history.
Tim Raines is a former left fielder who played for 6 teams during his 22 year career starting with 12 straight seasons for the Montreal Expos in 1979. His last season was with the Florida Marlins in 2002. From 1991 to 1995 he played for the Chicago White Sox, followed by the New York Yankees for the 1996 to 1998 seasons, then the Oakland Athletics for one year in 1999 before returning to the Montreal Expos and then the Baltimore Orioles in 2001. Raines is a three-time World Series champion, twice as a player for 1996 and 1998 with the Yankees and once as first base coach for the White Sox in 2005. Raines made the All-Star team seven times from 1981 through 1987.
Jeff Bagwell played first base for the Houston Astros during his entire fifteen-year career. He was the 1991 National League Rookie of the Year and the 1994 National League MVP. Bagwell was also American League All Star for 1994, 1996, 1997 and 1999. Bagwell has earned numerous awards and honors including the Gold Glove Award recipient for 1994 plus the Silver Slugger Award winner for 1994, 1997 and 1999.
Ivan Rodriguez is a retired catcher who played for the Texas Rangers at two different times first from 1991 through 2002 and later in 2009. He also played for the Florida Marlins in 2003, then 5 seasons with the Detroit Tigers starting in 2004. In 2008 he played for the New York Yankees and the the Houston Astros. In 2009 after playing for the Texas Rangers he joined the Washington Nationals. Rodriguez was World Series champion while playing for the Marlins in 2003 and was a recipient of the Gold Glove Award thiteen times for 1992 through 2001, then for 2004, 2006 and 2007.
