Rory McIlroy & Adam Scott Start the U.S. Open Grouped with Tiger Woods in the Opening Rounds at Merion (VIDEO)

PHIILADELPHIA, Pa. — Look for an interesting week in the world of golf when Tiger Woods is grouped in the opening rounds with Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott at this year’s U.S. Open at Merion. This will be the first major tournament since 1981 to be held at Merion.

Woods, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott are ranked the top three players in the world and this year’s tournament will mark the third straight year that U.S. Open officials have put the top three players in the same group.

This will be the first time McIlroy and Woods will have played together in any round of a major. Tiger Woods, Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson played together in the opening two days at Torrey Pines in the 2008 U.S. Open. That was the first time the USGA went to the 1-2-3 grouping.

Sunday will officially be five years since Tiger Woods’ last major at the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, so Woods obviously is looking to get back on track to break Jack Nicklaus’s record of 18 majors.
