    BUFFALO, NY. — According to BuffaloNews.comto cite sources, the 2014-15 lineup for the University at Buffalo’s Distinguished Speakers Series includes comedian John Oliver, NBA legend Magic Johnson and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Rounding out the list of speakers are authors Cheryl Strayed, Wes Moore and oceanographer Robert Ballard.

  • Phil Simms to Speak at University of Louisville Sports Event

    LOUISVILLE, KY. — Former New York Giants QB, Phil Simms, has been named the guest speaker at the U of L Conversations With Champions event to be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. in Comstock Hall on U of L’s Belknap Campus. Simms speech will address how mentors helped him develop leadership skills as well as how he has handled the pressures that come with being an NFL quarterback and television sports analyst. Conversations With Champions will be integrated into curriculum for the university’s sport administration program, which is part of the College of Education & Human Development.   • Bruce Weber to Speak at Inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer Coaching Clinic in St. Louis

    ST. LOUIS, MO. — Kansas State basketball coach, Bruce Weber, has been named the guest speaker at the inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer Coaches Clinic from Aug. 5-6 to be held at the Missouri Athletic Club. According to 247 Sports, to cite souces, Weber will be joined at the clinic by St. Louis head coach Jim Crews, UMKC coach Kareem Richardson, Illinois head women’s coach Mike Divilbiss and Maryville (Mo.) University head coach Kevin Carroll.

  • Lee Trevino & Gary McCord Appear at Benedictine University Golf Outing to Help Provide Scholarships for Students

    WHEATON, IL — Benedictine University recently hosted their 20th Annual President’s Invitational Golf Outing with golf legend Lee Trevino and CBS Sports analyst Gary McCord who were this year’s featured celebrities. The event took place on Monday July 28 at Cantigny Golf in Wheaton where area golfers had the opportunity to meet golf’s greatest and play a championship course all while contributing to a good cause.   • Bill Self Named Keynote Speaker at UMKC’s Tip Off Dinner

    KANSAS CITY, MO. — Jayhawks head coach, Bill Self, will be the keynote speaker at the University of Missouri Kansas City’s 2nd Annual ’Roos Tip-off Dinner to be held on Sept. 30 at the College Basketball Experience. Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo served as keynote speaker at last year’s event. Tickets start at $100.

    TALLAHASSEE, FL. — Seven-time Olympic medalist, Shannon Miller, was the keynote speaker on Saturday July 12 at the Women’s Wellness Day event presented by Capital Regional Medical Center.   • Dwyane Wade Signs New Contract with Miami Heat

    MIAMI, Fla. — Looks like Dwyane Wade is staying with the Miami Heat. According to Yahoo Sports, to cite sources, Wade signed a new contract with the Heat on Tuesday, July 15. It’s a two-year deal, the second of those seasons a player option, said a person familiar with the situation. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither side announced terms. Financial terms were not announced, though it’s expected Wade’s salary for next season will not reach the $20.2 million he would have made under his previous contract.
