Lee Trevino & Gary McCord Appear at Benedictine University Golf Outing to Help Provide Scholarships for Students

WHEATON, IL — Benedictine University recently hosted their 20th Annual President’s Invitational Golf Outing with golf legend Lee Trevino and CBS Sports analyst Gary McCord who were this year’s featured celebrities. The event took place on Monday July 28 at Cantigny Golf in Wheaton where area golfers had the opportunity to meet golf’s greatest and play a championship course all while contributing to a good cause. Proceeds from the event help provide scholarships for Benedictine students. Source: Benedictine University.

Rory McIlroy Set to Play for Ireland in Rio 2016 Olympics

Pro golfer, Rory McIlroy, is set to play for Ireland in the Rio 2016 Olympics. According to Yahoo News, McIlroy, who was born and raised in Holywood in County Down, was eligible for both Great Britain and Ireland.

Phil Mickelson Changes Putting Strategy at U.S. Open: VIDEO

Phil Mickelson, hoping to win his first U.S. Open, is making a last minute change. According to NBC on YahooSports, to cite sources, on the eve of arguably the most important tournament of his career, Mickelson revealed that he will at least begin this 114th U.S. Open with a tweak to his putting grip by returning to the claw.

NFL Star Jerry Rice Appears on Golf Channel’s Big Break

The Golf Channel’s realty show, Big Break, will now include retired NFL players Jerry Rice and Tim Brown, who will team up with with male and female golfers trying to earn tour cards. The reality show was filmed in Puerto Rico, and is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 8, 2013. Also featured with Rice and Brown are former NFL players, Marc Bulger, Al Del Greco, Chris Doleman and Mark Rypien, all with single-digit handicaps. (more…)

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan Hosts Charity Golf Tournament

ATLANTA, GA. — Atlanta Falcons quarterback, Matt Ryan, recently hosted his third celebrity golf tournament to raise money for the Aflac Cancer Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Matt Ryan Foundation. The charity golf event took place at the Tournament Players Club TPC Sugarloaf golf course on April 15, the Monday after the Masters tournament. Tiger Woods Wins PGA Tour for an Eighth Record Time at Torrey Pines (VIDEO)

Tiger Woods first win of the year at Farmer’s Insurance Open has made him the only PGA Tour winner to ever win eight times at any course. On Sunday Woods made a remarkable recovery at the 11th hole getting out of the bunker to par the hole. However, Woods bogeyed the 14th and then hit a wayward tee shot on the 15th making things difficult for himself.
