Walker was a five-time All-Star (1992, 1997-1999, 2001) and won seven Gold Gloves in recognition of his strong defensive play (1992, 1993, 1997-1999, 2001, 2002).

In 1997, Walker had an explosive year as he hit .366 with an MLB-high 49 home runs, driving in 130 runs. Walker’s slugging percentage (.720) and OPS (1.172) also led the league. For his efforts, he was named the N.L. MVP and also won a Silver Slugger Award. Walker’s .363 batting average again led all of baseball in 1998 while the following year, in 1999, he led MLB in batting average (.379), on-base percentage (.548), slugging (.710) and OPS (1.168). He won another Silver Slugger for his strong offensive output and placed 10th that year in N.L. MVP voting.

In 1990 while with Montreal, Walker ranked seventh in A.L. Rookie of the Year voting. Two years later, he won his first Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award, placing fifth in the A.L. MVP voting behind a 23 home run and 93 RBI season, batting .301 in the process. Walker had another dominant season for the Rockies in 2001 as a member of the “Blake Street Bombers” along with Vinny Castilla, Dante Bichette, and Andres Galarraga, notching 38 homers with 138 RBI while leading the N.L. with a .350 batting average. A native of British Columbia, Canada, Walker coached for his home country at the World Baseball Classic (2009, 2013, 2017) as well as the Pan Am Games (2011).
