Ken Griffey Jr. enjoyed a storied 22-year career playing outfield in the majors from 1989-2010 for the Seattle Mariners (1989-1999, 2009-2010), Cincinnati Reds (2000-2008) and Chicago White Sox (2008). Griffey was enshrined within the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016 during his first year of eligibility and received 99.32% of the votes, at the time the highest percentage ever. Griffey’s jersey #24 has been retired by the Mariners and he is a member of both the Reds Hall of Fame and Mariners Hall of Fame. Additionally, he was named to Major League Baseball’s All-Century Team in 1999, joining an elite cast of outfielders that included among others Hank Aaron, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays and Ted Williams.

A career .284 hitter, Griffey Jr. made his debut in the majors with Seattle on April 3, 1989 and went on to win seven Silver Sluggers (1991, 1993, 1994, 1996-1999) and was a 13-time All-Star (1990-2000, 2004, 2007). He also captured 10 consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 1990-1999 as the American League’s top center fielder. In total for his career, he racked up 2,781 hits along with 1,836 RBI and 630 home runs, the latter of which ranks seventh in MLB history. In 1997 with the Mariners, Griffey batted .304 and hit 56 homers to go along with 147 RBI, a performance that earned him A.L. MVP honors. In his career, Griffey Jr. received MVP votes in nine separate seasons, four of which — not counting his 1997 MVP campaign — saw him place in the top five for A.L. voting. In 1997, he also led the A.L. in home runs as he did three other times in his career in 1994, 1998 and 1999. Away from the game, Griffey founded the Ken Griffey, Jr. Family Foundation, which supports children’s hospitals as well as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Born on November 21, 1969 in Donora, Pennsylvania, he is the son of former big leaguer Ken Griffey Sr.
