Shannon Miller to Speak at Fundraising Event in Abilene

ABILENE, TX. — Seven time Olympic gold medalist and cancer survivor, Shannon Miller, will join a gymnastics clinic with Gymnastics Sports Center on Sept. 25 to encourage the children to set goals and to take pictures with the participants. The clinic will cost $25 per child and limited spots are available. According to a the organization’s press release, Miller has also agreed to participate in the Alliance for Women and Children’s 11th Annual Fall Luncheon on Sept. 26 at the Abilene Civic Center, located at 1100 N 6th St, in Abilene, TX.

The purpose of the Alliance for Women and Children’s mission is to provide quality programs to empower all women and children by educating and assisting women to be health conscious and self sufficient and providing a nurturing and safe environment for school-aged children. Miller holds the distinction of being the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast. She has won 59 international and 49 national competition medals, more than half of them gold. She is the only U.S. gymnast to win two World All-Around Titles and she is the first American female to medal in the individual all-around of a non-boycotted Olympics. Her tally of five medals (two silver, three bronze) at the 1992 Olympics was the most medals won by a U.S. athlete in any sport at the time.
