According to the NC Advertiser article Committee Co-Chair, Peter Krieger spoke about George Martin for his commitment to 911 responders:

“‘We’re thrilled that George will be our keynote speaker at this year’s outing,’ said Committee Co-Chair Peter Krieger. ‘His commitment to the 9/11 responders, many of whom suffer from serious medical and mental health conditions as a result of their service, is truly inspirational.'”

George Martin is a former NFL defensive end who played his entire career in the National Football League for the New York Giants (1975–1988). On September 16, 2007, Martin began walking from New York City’s George Washington Bridge to San Diego in order to raise money for medical care for the first responders to the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attack on the United States. Costing $150,000, Martin about $2 million for this cause Martin planned to walk more than 3,000 miles across the nation. He arrived in San Diego on June 21, 2008 after having walked over 3,000 miles. He said the total amount raised was about $2 million.
