Former Basketball Coach Digger Phelps Says He’s Cancer Free

Digger Phelps, former basketball coach of Notre Dame, was told by his physician on Monday, July 1, that after six weeks of intensive treatment for bladder cancer, he is now cancer free. Phelps,  a prostate cancer survivor, was dianosed with bladder cancer in April 2013. Less than three months later, his doctor gave him the good news.

He [his doctor] said, “You’re cancer-free; you’re fine,” said Phelps, who spoke to the South Bend Tribune during Tuesday’s Weekday Sportsbeat on WSBT radio. “I got a little emotional. I was tearful when I thought about it.”

Phelps, no stranger to cancer, beat prostate cancer more than three years ago.
