  • Phil Simms to Speak at University of Louisville Sports Event

    LOUISVILLE, KY. — Former New York Giants QB, Phil Simms, has been named the guest speaker at the U of L Conversations With Champions event to be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. in Comstock Hall on U of L’s Belknap Campus. Simms speech will address how mentors helped him develop leadership skills as well as how he has handled the pressures that come with being an NFL quarterback and television sports analyst. Conversations With Champions will be integrated into curriculum for the university’s sport administration program, which is part of the College of Education & Human Development.   • Lee Trevino & Gary McCord Appear at Benedictine University Golf Outing to Help Provide Scholarships for Students

    WHEATON, IL — Benedictine University recently hosted their 20th Annual President’s Invitational Golf Outing with golf legend Lee Trevino and CBS Sports analyst Gary McCord who were this year’s featured celebrities. The event took place on Monday July 28 at Cantigny Golf in Wheaton where area golfers had the opportunity to meet golf’s greatest and play a championship course all while contributing to a good cause.   • Bill Self Named Keynote Speaker at UMKC’s Tip Off Dinner

    KANSAS CITY, MO. — Jayhawks head coach, Bill Self, will be the keynote speaker at the University of Missouri Kansas City’s 2nd Annual ’Roos Tip-off Dinner to be held on Sept. 30 at the College Basketball Experience. Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo served as keynote speaker at last year’s event. Tickets start at $100.

  • Magic Johnson Named Guest Speaker at Laredo STARS Event

    LAREDO, TX — Former LA Lakers legend, Magic Johnson, has been named the guest speaker at the 2014 Laredo STARS Extravaganza to be held on Thusday Sept. 11, 2014 at the Laredo Country Club located at 1415 Country Club Dr. in Laredo, TX . Over the years the STARS program has enlisted the help of international figures from politicians to actors. This year basketball superstar Magic Johnson has been added to the list.

  • Steelers Jerome Bettis Presents Young Athletes With $64K for 'Sports Matter' Project

    CORAPOLIS PA. — Former Pittsburgh Steelers Jerome Bettis along with Steelers Jarvis Jones recently appeared at Dick’s Sporting Goods headquarters in Coraopolis where they put some young athletes through the paces as part of the company’s “Sports Matter” project. According to KDKA, two area schools and a soccer club, suffering from financial shortfalls, received checks from Dick’s totaling more than $64,000 for their sports programs. Steelers running back, Jerome Bettis, presented a check to young athletes June 2014 for more than $64K from Dicks Sporting Goods for their sports programs. (more…)
