Phil Simms played quarterback in the NFL for 14 seasons from 1979-1993 for the New York Giants and enjoyed one of the most successful tenures of any quarterback in franchise history, leading the Giants to wins in Super Bowls XXI and XXV. In Super Bowl XXI in which the Giants beat the Denver Broncos, 39-20, Simms was named MVP after going 22 of 25 through the air for an 88% completion percentage, the highest ever for a title game. Simms was also a two-time Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro in 1986, the same season he was named by the Newspaper Enterprise Association as NFL MVP. He finished his career with 33,462 passing yards and 199 touchdowns and the holder of numerous franchise records. The Giants retired Simms jersey #11 in 1995 and he is a member of the team’s Ring of Honor.

Born on November 3, 1955, Simms played college football at Morehead State before being selected by the Giants in the 1979 NFL Draft (1st round, 7th pick overall). After retiring from playing, Simms embarked on a successful broadcasting career working for ESPN and NBC before moving to CBS in 1998, where he continues to work today on the network’s pregame show “The NFL Today.” He also serves as host of Showtime’s “Inside the NFL” and has appeared in several Madden NFL video games.
