Mike Scioscia managed the Los Angeles Angels from 2000 – 2018. At the time of his departure, he was the longest tenured manager in Major League Baseball. Scioscia is one of five managers in MLB history to guide the same franchise for at least 19 straight seasons and just the fourth since 1975 (Bobby Cox, Tommy Lasorda and Sparky Anderson). Scioscia's 1,650 wins ranks 18th all-time among managers and are second most all-time by a manager with one team, trailing only Walter Alston.
From 2004-2009, Scioscia guided the club to six consecutive winning seasons for the first time in the club history. He led the Angels to seven playoff appearances, captured six American League West titles, won an AL pennant and led the Angels to the franchise's first World Series title in 2002. Prior to Scioscia's tenure, the Angels won a total of three division titles in the previous 42 seasons. He was named BBWAA American League Manager of the Year twice, in 2002 & 2009, and finished second in voting in 2007 & 2014.
As a player, Scioscia was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1st round of the 1976 draft. He made his major league debut in 1980 and went on to enjoy a 12 year career with the Dodgers. Scioscia was a key player on the Dodgers' 1981 and 1988 World Series championship teams. In 1990, Scioscia became the first Dodgers catcher since Hall of Famer Roy Campanella to start in an All-Star Game.
