Karl Mecklenburg spent his entire 12-year career in the NFL from 1983-1994 playing for the Denver Broncos. Although he excelled at linebacker, Mecklenburg’s versatility was often on display as he played all seven positions on the defensive front. He was a six-time Pro Bowler and four-time First-Team All-Pro and helped the Broncos to three Super Bowl appearances. His 79.5 career sacks ranks third all-time in Broncos history, trailing only Von Miller and Simon Fletcher. Mecklenburg is a member of the Broncos Ring of Fame and Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. NFL Films ranked Mecklenburg as one of the top 10 players in franchise history.
Born on September 1, 1960 in Seattle, Washington, Mecklenburg attended college at the University of Minnesota, where he walked-on the football team. He was picked by Denver in the 12th round of the 1983 draft. After his playing career ended, Mecklenburg embarked on a successful speaking career and was designated by the National Speakers Association as a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP).
