John Kruk is a retired MLB first baseman and outfielder who played from 1986-1995 with the San Diego Padres (1986-1989), Philadelphia Phillies (1989-1994) and Chicago White Sox (1995). Though Kruk enjoyed some success with the Padres, such as in 1987 when he hit .313 with 20 homers and 91 RBI along with 18 stolen bases, Kruk is best remembered for his time in Philadelphia.

From 1991-1993 while with the Phillies, Kruk was named to three straight All-Star games. In 1991, Kruk hit a career-high 21 home runs, knocking in 92 batters while hitting .294. In his 10-year career, he was a.300 hitter at the plate and he recorded a batting average lower than.291 just one time. The 1993 season saw Kruk hit a career-best .316 while he also notched 85 RBI. That season, Philadelphia advanced to the World Series but fell short after losing to the Toronto Blue Jays in six games. However, it was no fault of Kruk’s as he batted .348 in the Fall Classic. Kruk retired in 1995 and became a member of the Phillies Baseball Wall of Fame in 2011.

After his playing days ended, Kruk launched a successful broadcast career and appeared frequently on ESPN, including Baseball Tonight. He also appeared on Fox’s MLB coverage and has worked as a color analyst for Phillies games on Comcast SportsNet and NBC Sports Philadelphia.
