Doug Gilmour is a former NHL player who enjoyed a successful career that spanned from 1983-2003 with the St. Louis Blues (1983-1988), Calgary Flames (1988-1992), Toronto Maple Leafs (1992-1997, 2002-2003), New Jersey Devils (1996-1998), Chicago Blackhawks (1998-2000) and Montreal Canadiens (2001-2003). In 2011, he became a member of both the Hockey Hall of Fame and Ontario Sports Hall of Fame. His jersey #93 was retired by the Maple Leafs in 2009.
Gilmour recorded 1,414 points in 1,474 career games played. A 7th round selection by St. Louis in the 1982 NHL Draft, Gilmour played five seasons for the Blues, recording a then-career-high 105 points for the 1986-1987 season. In 1988-1989 with Calgary, Gilmour helped the Flames to a Stanley Cup victory, winning the lone championship of his career and scoring 26 goals and 59 assists during the regular season.
Gilmour enjoyed the finest statistical years of his career while with Toronto. He won the Frank J. Selke Trophy for the 1992-1993 season as the NHL’s best defensive forward while being named an All-Star that year and the next. He registered a career-high 127 points for the 1992-1993 season and followed that up with 111 points the next season. Gilmour also competed in international competition and, in 1987, he earned a gold medal representing Canada in the Canada Cup. After retiring, he worked as a coach and executive in the NHL and AHL.
