Danny Wuerffel is a former college and NFL quarterback who played in the NFL from 1997-2002. Wuerfell was a standout at the University of Florida while in college, leading the Gators’ offense from 1993-96 which resulted in four straight SEC titles. He led the NCAA in touchdown passes with 35 in 1995 and 39 in 1996 while also coming in first in passer rating for the 1995 season.

By the end of his college career, he had thrown 114 touchdowns compared to just 42 picks. Wuerffel led the Gators to the 1996 National Championship after they defeated Florida State, 52-20, in the Sugar Bowl. For his efforts, he won the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Walter Camp Award and was the Sporting News’ Player of the Year in 1996. In 2013, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 1997, he was with the team through 1999. In the 2000 NFL offseason, Wuerffel played for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe, winning a World Bowl title and earning the game’s MVP honors in the process. Wuerffel played for Chicago, Green Bay and Washington from 2001-2003 and retired from the NFL in early 2004. Outside of football, he’s worked with Desire Street Ministries, a nonprofit located in New Orleans.
