Curtis Joseph is a former NHL goaltender who played for six teams during a 19-year career that spanned from 1989-2009, including the St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, Phoenix Coyotes and Calgary Flames. The three-time All-Star won 454 NHL games during his career and captured a gold medal with Canada at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Joseph went undrafted out of the University of Wisconsin but navigated his way through the NHL’s minor leagues before joining the St. Louis Blues in 1989, for whom he played until 1995. In 1993-1994, he won 36 games for the Blues and was named an NHL All-Star. From 1995-1998, Joseph played for the Edmonton Oilers, turning in three solid campaigns in consecutive fashion in which his goals against average was never higher than 2.93.
Joseph next spent four seasons from 1998-2002 with the Toronto Maple Leafs, playing arguably the best hockey of his career. Winning an average of 33 games per year with a goals against average that never rose about 2.56, Joseph earned two more trips to the All-Star game in 1999 and 2000. In 2000, he additionally was named the recipient of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which recognizes the NHL player who shows leadership off and on the ice and who made significant contributions to his community.
