Benjamin Watson's career in the NFL began in 2004 when he was drafted by New England originally as the final first round pick out of Georgia in the 2004 NFL Draft. Watson was on the Injured Reserve list for most of his rookie campaign but the Patriots won Super Bowl XXXIX in his absence and presented him a ring as a member of the championship team. Watson played in New England through 2009, grabbing 155 catches for 2,086 yards along with 20 touchdowns.

He joined Cleveland in 2010, starting all 16 games for the first time in his career while catching 68 passes for a then career-best 763 yards. Watson played for the Browns through 2012 before playing for the New Orleans Saints. In 2015, while with the Saints, Watson had a career year. He started all 16 games, caught a career-best 74 passes and also set a personal-best with 825 yards. His six touchdowns tied a career-high that he set with the Patriots in 2007.

After a torn Achilles sidelined him for the 2016 season, he rebounded with the Baltimore Ravens in 2017, catching 61 balls for 522 yards before playing for the Saints again in 2018. Watson retired following the 2018 season but a few months later came out of retirement to rejoin the New England Patriots. In 2018 he was a finalist for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. That same year, Watson came out with a book titled “Under Our Skin: Getting Real About Race – and Getting Free from the Fears and Frustrations That Divide Us”.
