  • “Dandy Don” Meredith Dies of Brain Hemorrhage at 72

    We  are sad to report that Don Meredith, ex Dallas Cowboy football star and broadcaster of ABC’s Original Monday Night Football, died of a brain hemorrhage Sunday, Dec. 5, at age 72.

    In a Yahoo Sports news article Meredith’s wife, Susan said her husband died in Santa Fe after suffering a brain hemorrhage and lapsing into a coma. She and her daughter were at Meredith’s side when he died. (more…)

  • Drew Brees Named Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year

    Quarterback Drew Brees has been named the recipient of Sports Illustrated’s 57th Sportsman of the Year award. Drew’s notoriety comes not only from winning Super Bowl XLIV, but also from giving back hope and pride to the city of New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

    “It’s an unbelievable honor, for everything that it stands for,” Brees said of the Sports Illustrated award Tuesday morning on NBC’s Today show. “And it just makes me reflect back on the last five years in New Orleans, and the teams that I’ve had the opportunity to play for. And it’s just been a special, special journey.”

    “I needed New Orleans so badly back in 2006, just somebody to believe in me, somebody to care about me,” he said. “And that’s why myself and my wife Brittany, we just tried to throw ourselves into the community, to do our part.”

    Who can forget the image of Brees carrying his one-year old son, Baylen, onto the field after winning Super Bowl XLIV, restoring pride back to the city that so much believed in him. (more…)

  • Minnesota Vikings FIRE Brad Childress

    EDEN PRAIRIE, MN. — The Minnesota Vikings didn’t have much to be thankful for and so went the firing of Brad Childress Monday, November 22, just before the Thansksgiving holiday.  Anger had spread from the top, the players and the fans ending Childress’s run which was marred recently over everything from his abrupt decisions to a 3-7 start.

    Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Frazier and owner Zygi Wilf, who stormed out of the locker room after Minnesota’s 31-3 loss at home to rival Green Bay on Sunday, were scheduled to talk with reporters later Monday afternoon.     LAS VEGAS, NV – Jonathan Byrd looks stunned as he realizes he just hit a hole in one in the final round to win the 2010 Justin Timberlake Shriner’s Hospitals for Children Open.

  • John Elway Victim of $71 Million Ponzi Scheme

    DENVER, CO – John Elway, former Denver Bronco’s quarterback, was named among about 65 investors Tuesday, October 12, in a criminal case against former hedge-fund manager Sean Mueller of Cherry Hills Village. Mueller, a Greenwood Village hedge fund manager, who threatened suicide in April, was charged Tuesday with theft, securities fraud, and violating Colorado’s organized crime law in an alleged Ponzi scheme involving $71 million.

    The Denver district attorney’s office did not disclose the amount that Elway invested. Elway’s agent and spokesman declined to comment. (more…)

  • Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn is Battling Cancer

    SAN DIEGO, CA — Baseball Hall of Famer, Tony Gwynn, has been diagnosed with cancer in a salivary gland. Gwynn told San Diego Union-Tribune the cancer was discovered last month after a third round of surgery since 1997 to remove a tumor on the parotid gland.

    Gwynn, 50, played for the San Diego Padres from 1982 to 2001, winning eight National League batting titles. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2007. (more…)
