Three-time Sport Emmy Award nominee Mike Tirico has enjoyed a long and illustrious career as one of America’s most recognizable sportscasters. Since joining NBC Sports in 2016, Tirico had served as host for many of the network’s sports properties, including The Open Championship, Olympics, Notre Dame college football, Indianapolis 500, NHL Stanley Cup and the NFL’s “Football Night in America”. Prior to joining NBC Sports, Tirico spent 25 years with ABC/ESPN. Besides spending 10 years from 2006-2015 calling play-by-play for Monday Night Football, Tirico also worked other major events including The Open Championship, NBA, college basketball and football, Wimbledon, US Open (tennis) and FIFA World Cup.
Tirico first joined ESPN in 1991 as an anchor for SportsCenter. Over the years, he led the coverage for SportsCenter at such events as the Daytona 500, The Masters, NCAA Final Four, Super Bowl and NFL Draft. In 2010, the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association named Tirico its Sportscaster of the Year. In 2020, Tirico was honored by the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University as the recipient of the Marty Glickman Award. Tirico was born on December 13, 1966 in Queen, New York. He attended Syracuse, where he launched his broadcast career by hosting a radio show on WAER (his first guest was Bob Costas). Tirico got his start in television when he worked at WTVH, a CBS affiliate in Syracuse, from 1987-1991, serving as sports director along with doing play-by-play for numerous Orangemen sports, including football, basketball, volleyball and lacrosse.
