Mark Eaton played center in the NBA for the Utah Jazz from 1982-1993. Considered one of the top defensive players at his position in the history of the league, at 7’4”” Eaton was named an All-Star in 1989 and was twice named NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1985 and 1989. He was also three times named to the NBA All-Defensive First-Team and four times led the league in blocked shots. Along with Hall of Fame teammates Karl Malone and John Stockton, Eaton played an integral role in the success of the Jazz during his time in the league. Eaton’s jersey #53 was retired by the Jazz in 1996. He’s also a member of the Utah Sports Hall of Fame.

Eaton was born on January 24, 1957 in Inglewood, California. He played collegiately at UCLA before being selected by the Jazz in the 4th round of the 1982 draft. During his rookie year, Eaton set a Jazz franchise record by blocking 275 shots. His total of 3,064 blocked shots during his career ranks 4th all-time in NBA history and trails only Hakeem Olajuwon, Dikembe Mutombo and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Off the court, Eaton has served as a basketball analyst with KJZZ-TV covering the Jazz and University of Utah. He serves as a popular motivational speaker and has spoken to hundreds of organizations around the country including FedEx, IBM, T-Mobile and Phillips 66. Eaton also wrote the best-selling book “The Four Commitments of a Winning Team”.
