In total, he won 77 career singles titles and 78 doubles titles. He was the world’s No 1 ranked player on 14 different occasions between 1980 – 1985 and spent a total of 170 weeks at the top. McEnroe enjoyed some of the most intense rivalries in the history of the sport, most notably against Bjorn Borg and Jimmy Connors. McEnroe also contributed to 5 U.S. Davis Cup titles and later served as team captain. McEnroe was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame in 1999.
