Hank Aaron is a former MLB outfielder who played from 1954-1976 with the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves (1954-1974) and Milwaukee Brewers (1975-1976). Aaron was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982 and, from 1955-1975, was named to 21 consecutive All-Star games. A member of Major League Baseball’s All-Century Team, Aaron in 1974 broke Babe Ruth’s long-standing MLB record for home runs (714) that had stood since 1935 and which many baseball fans and experts alike deemed to be unbreakable.

In his career, Aaron produced 17 seasons in which he recorded 150 or more hits, a mark that he currently shares with New York Yankees great Derek Jeter. Aaron holds the MLB record for RBI, total bases and extra-base hits. Aaron in 1957 had a batting average of .322 and led MLB in home runs as well as RBI. He was named that season’s NL MVP and helped the Braves to a victory in the 1957 World Series.

From 1958-1960, Aaron won three straight Gold Glove awards while his batting average led baseball in 1956 (.328) and 1959 (.355). In 1970, Aaron recorded his 3,000th hit and, as of 2020, currently trails only Pete Rose and Ty Cobb in career hits with 3,771. After his playing days, Aaron became a Braves front office executive. In 1999, MLB established the Hank Aaron Award, which is given to the best offensive players in both the AL and NL. President George W. Bush awarded Aaron the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002.
