NASHVILLE, TN. — ‘Mr. Cub’ Hall of Famer, Ernie Banks<\/a>, has been named the guest speaker at the sixth annual fundraiser at Allen Arena on April 19 for its Don Meyer Evening of Excellence. In the past, guest speakers included Tim Tebow, Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, former Butler coach Brad Stevens, who is now with the Boston Celtics, and Phil, Si and Kay Robertson from TV\u2019s \u201cDuck Dynasty.\u201d<\/p>\n

Banks, famous for hitting more than 40 home runs in five different seasons, was an 11-time All-Star. He was also named National League MVP twice and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977.<\/p>\n

Banks, 83, told the media, \u201cMy life is now about raising money for different organizations centered around the humanities. I support organizations that are helping people improve their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meyer recalls, \u201cI had a baseball team I was coaching at Western State Colorado and we were playing at Arizona State one year and we went out to the Cubs spring training and I got to watch Ernie Banks and Billy Williams. Ernie was a great athlete, a great shortstop. He was a complete player no doubt about it.\u201d
