Rumors have been spreading this afternoon that American League MVP Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins have reached a preliminary agreement on a 10-year contract extension.<\/p>\n

Joe Mauer himself has denied the rumor today stating that he has not reached an agreement with the Minnesota Twins for a 10-year contract extension… <\/p>\n

“I don’t know where that came from,” Mauer said in an interview Tuesday afternoon with KARE 11’s Randy Shaver.  “I was pretty shocked to hear that.”<\/p>\n

“Both sides have had good meetings and we’ll leave it at that”<\/p>\n

ESPN’s Buster Olney also tweeted the following:<\/p>\n

“Twins remain optimistic that a deal will eventually get done, but a deal is not done yet.” He later added that “multiple sources now saying that the report on a preliminary agreement for Mauer is not accurate.”<\/p>\n
