\nNEW YORK (WFAN) – Baseball Hall of Famer and MLB Network analyst, John Smoltz<\/a> appeared with Mike Francesa on a WFAN radio show on June 23, 2016 and spoke about pitching. Smoltz offered some sage advice about how today’s pitchers are brought up under a very different philosophy than he was. Source: CBS New York

“Back not too long ago, the information was you learned how to pitch, you learned how to get through it, you didn\u2019t have restrictions on you. You developed in the minor leagues. That\u2019s why the minor leagues was so crucial for a lot of pitchers who ended up having a long career. There wasn\u2019t 90 pitches and you\u2019re out. You worked in and out of trouble. You learned how to change gears. You learned how to develop.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The article also mentioned that today’s pitchers “don\u2019t know the difference between discomfort and injury” and that “he felt good less than half the time he pitched over his 20-year career”<\/p>\n
