The hiring of Washington Redskins tight end, Chris Cooley, was announced on Tuesday, July 16, by Red Zebra Broadcasting, the company owned by Redskins owner Daniel Snyder that operates ESPN 980 (WTEM, 980 AM), the team\u2019s flagship station in Washington. Cooley, 31, was signed to a multiyear deal, according to a written announcement. The written announcement said Cooley will serve as an \u201cin-game contributor\u201d to the radio broadcasts, providing analysis in a \u201cCooley\u2019s Corner\u201d segment that will be heard every quarter.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo add a talent and fan favorite like Chris to our team will add excitement to our broadcast and a level of unpredictability for our listeners,\u201d said Chuck Sapienza, the executive producer of Redskins Radio Network.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m pumped,\u201d Cooley said in a telephone interview. \u201cThis is a great deal for me. I really want this job, and I want to do it for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although no official retirement papers have been filed with the NFL yet, Cooley, who spent nine productive seasons with the Redskins, expressed that he does not intend to play again, although the door is always open.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat door would be open a crack,\u201d Cooley said. \u201cBut do I plan to play? No. I\u2019m not officially retiring, mostly because I\u2019m a procrastinator. But my plans are to be done. I don\u2019t plan to play. I feel pretty fortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n
