ST. JOSEPH, MO. — Dave Dravecky’s message was one of hope, faith, endurance and perseverance as the former San Francisco Giant’s pitcher and cancer survivor gave an inspirational speech at the  St. Joseph Christian School fundraiser held on Thursday, October 10, in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Shannon Miller to Speak at Fundraising Event in Abilene

ABILENE, TX. — Seven time Olympic gold medalist and cancer survivor, Shannon Miller, will join a gymnastics clinic with Gymnastics Sports Center on Sept. 25 to encourage the children to set goals and to take pictures with the participants. The clinic will cost $25 per child and limited spots are available. According to a the organization’s press release, Miller has also agreed to participate in the Alliance for Women and Children’s 11th Annual Fall Luncheon on Sept. 26 at the Abilene Civic Center, located at 1100 N 6th St, in Abilene, TX.

Former Basketball Coach Digger Phelps Says He’s Cancer Free

Digger Phelps, former basketball coach of Notre Dame, was told by his physician on Monday, July 1, that after six weeks of intensive treatment for bladder cancer, he is now cancer free. St. John’s basketball coach, Steve Lavin, said in a statement today that he has prostate cancer. Lavin is 46 years old.

Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn is Battling Cancer

SAN DIEGO, CA — Baseball Hall of Famer, Tony Gwynn, has been diagnosed with cancer in a salivary gland. Gwynn told San Diego Union-Tribune the cancer was discovered last month after a third round of surgery since 1997 to remove a tumor on the parotid gland.
