Leinart was selected 10th overall in the 1st round by Arizona in the 2006 draft. Leinart enjoyed a storied college career at USC. As starting quarterback for the Trojans as a sophomore in 2003, he led USC to an 11-1 overall record and win over Michigan in the Rose Bowl. He was named Rose Bowl MVP after throwing for 327 yards and three touchdowns.

In 2004 as a junior, Leinart led the Trojans to a National Championship after USC defeated Oklahoma in the BCS title game and Orange Bowl, 55-19. Leinart won Orange Bowl MVP honors and that year threw 33 touchdowns and 3,322 yards through the air. For his efforts that season, he won the Heisman Trophy, becoming at the time only the sixth USC Trojan to take it home, joining OJ Simpson, Mike Garrett, Charles White, Marcus Allen and Carson Palmer. That same year he also won the Manning Award and the Walter Camp Award.

Leinart capped his college career in 2005 by throwing for 28 td’s and 3,815 yards as a senior. The Trojans had another dominating year but fell to Texas in the BCS championship game, 41-38. Leinart was a Heisman finalist but failed to win it for a second time. However, he did win the Johnny Unitas Award. Leinart finished his time at USC with a 37-2 overall record. His jersey #11 was retired by the school and he became a member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 2017. After retiring from playing, Leinart worked as a college football analyst for the Pac-12 Network and Fox Sports.
