Packers to Retire Brett Favre Jersey is Sign of Making Peace

According to Green Bay Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy, the Packers want to make peace with Brett Favre and plan to retire the former quarterback’s jersey.

“We want to have (Favre) back in the family,” said Murphy, speaking at the Packers Tailgate Tour. Murphy said the timing has to work for both sides but it “will happen.”

Favre, once a hero, became an enemy in Green Bay when he retired from the Packers in 2008. After Favre wanted back in, it was too late. The packers had already chosen Aaron Rodgers. When Favre came back to the NFL as quarterback for the Jets and then Minnesota, the once sung hero became a traitor in the eyes of Green Bay fans.

The Lowell Sun reported:

Murphy said the door to the organization will soon be unlocked. Favre and Aaron Rodgers defrosting their icy relationship at the Super Bowl in New Orleans and were co-presenters of the Comeback Player of the Year Award. Murphy called that a symbolic “great first step.”

“We’re hopeful to have (Favre) back in the fold and get him back involved in the organization soon,” Murphy said.

Rodgers, discussing his relationship with Favre on his radio show, said he wanted to let Favre and the fans know everyone was ready to move on together.

“Let’s heal things up and move forward,” he said.
