Former MLB Shortstop and 13-time Gold Glove Award Winner Ozzie Smith to be Featured Speaker at Annual Sports Stag – Jan 17

CINCINNATI, OH – Former MLB shortstop and 13-time Gold Glove Award winner Ozzie Smith will be the featured guest speaker at the 33rd Annual La Salle Sports Stag on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. The event will be a fundraiser for various needs of La Salle High School in Cincinnati and is scheduled to occur from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Ozzie Smith will make an appearance and will be speaking at some point during the gathering. Of the 66 Baseball Hall of Fame Inductees that are still living 9 have been the guest speaker at the La Salle Sports Stag.”

Ozzie Smith nicknamed “The Wizard of Oz,” is a former MLB shortstop who played for the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals from 1978 to 1996. Smith is a 15-time All-Star, who accumulated 2,460 hits and 580 stolen bases during his 19-year career. Smith is a thirteen-time National League Gold Glove Award winner for thirteen consecutive seasons of defensive excellence from 1980 to 1992. Smith also won a Silver Slugger Award in 1987 as the best hitter at shortstop for that season. After the 1996 season, Smith’s uniform number (#1) was retired by the St. Louis Cardinals. After his retirement, Smith worked in various broadcasting positions and hosted the TV show This Week in Baseball from 1997 to 1999. Smith was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002.
